National Cycle Network Routes

Below we have listed cycling routes that are located in or pass through Chester. The routes that pass through, are on their way to many varied locations throughout the country.

Many of these have links to downloadable maps and information about that route. All of these routes are suitable for cyclists of all ages, it is recommended that children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Route 5 - Chester to Kidsgrove & Chester to Connah's Quay

These two route downloads are part of the Reading to Bangor in North Wales section of Route 5, they cover a total of 95km/59 miles. The Chester to Connah's Quay route is a traffic-free railway path for cyclists and walkers, most of the journey is within close proximity of the River Dee.

Route 45 - Whitchurch to Chester

A 48km/30 mile journey and is part of the Chester to Salisbury route. This route takes you along many of our rural roads and as you near Chester, the Shropshire Union Canal tow paths are used. A newly established website where further information about the whole of this route can be found, is called National Cycle Route 45 The Mercian Way (http://www.ncr45mercianway.co.uk/)

Route 56 - Chester to Neston

A 26km/16mile route and is part of the first section of the annual Chester to Liverpool Town Hall sponsored cycle ride.

Route 70 - Cheshire Cycleway (Chester to Acton Bridge)

This route is part of a 282 km/176 mile journey around and through some of Cheshire's finest scenery, avoiding busy roads where possible with important features along the way, like food, accommodation, local attractions and pubs.

Route 71 - Teggs Nose to Parkgate

A 100km/62 mile route passing through Chester, this route can also be done in stages with suitable accommodation available along the route. A DVD of this route is available along with a streaming video of it's content, see below for the link to this information.
